Never Gravel Enough

Suwalszczyzna

POLAND'S NORTH POLE, LAND OF HAPPY COWS AND WHITE GRAVEL After mountain adventures in the south, in the Kłodzko Land, we decided to explore the distant north – Suwalszczyzna. A region famous for its endless hills and lakes, as well as beautiful, winding gravel roads that resemble Tuscany. It’s one of the last corners of Poland untouched by mass tourism. They say the best gravel roads in Poland are hidden here. Is that true? We decided to check it out for ourselves.

TRADITIONAL KARTACZE

Our base was in a charming spot, at the very end of the world. The lack of reception made downloading tracks in the morning a challenge. After splitting into two groups, we hit the road. The goal was ice cream in Sejny and lunch at a Lithuanian restaurant in Puńsk. We spent the entire day riding on perfect, winding gravel roads and countless rolling hills, surrounded by happy cows and storks. It's true— we haven't seen better gravel anywhere else in Poland, and the added bonus was the absolute lack of people and cars. And the Lithuanian cuisine? It was alright, but riding a bike after kartacze... we wouldn’t really recommend it 😉

SUWAŁKI LANDSCAPE PARK AND THE BRIDGES IN STAŃCZYKI

The second day greeted us with beautiful weather as we set off towards Stańczyki through the stunning Suwałki Landscape Park. That day brought us steeper climbs, but they were rewarded with even more breathtaking views than the day before. Halfway through, both groups met up in Stańczyki—by the famous twin bridges—for waffles. In the meantime, Oliwia's derailleur gave up—on the lightest gear. We decided not to leave her behind, so for the next 30 kilometers, we took turns pulling her along the flat sections. The fun was great!

After returning to base, we packed up and headed to Suwałki for pizza. It’s becoming a tradition!

And just like that, we wrapped up another NGE weekend adventure. Suwalszczyzna amazed us and gave us more than we expected—fantastic gravel roads, countless rolling hills, cows and storks everywhere, and the blissful absence of crowds and mass tourism. All of this creates a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that’s hard to find anywhere else in Poland.

Next year, we’ll definitely be back—maybe even for more than just two days. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us—it was an incredible experience!
